Heins Creek Nature Preserve in Door County, Wisconsin

Heins Creek Nature Preserve is easily one of my favorite hiking spots in all of Door County.  The preserve is fairly small with a trail that loops around a scenic Door County meadow. The hiking is easy with minimal hills and only .75 miles of trail. My favorite aspect of the preserve is the creek that runs adjacent to the first hundred yards of the trail. In the fall season this creek becomes a great place to sit and watch the trout and salmon from Lake Michigan as they make their spawning runs.

Before the peninsula was settled by European settlers, Native Americans used to use Heins Creek as a trading outpost. Because of this people have found all sorts of cool artifacts at Heins Creek including arrowheads and tools.

For the entire month of October I spent almost all of my free time at Heins Creek doing my best to capture some of the trout and salmon as they made their spawning run. This video is the culmination of my efforts.
