Cedar Run Falls Natural Water Slides and Swimming Holes
Cedar Run Falls
Cedar Run is hands down my favorite hike to take friends on during the summer time. It’s the perfect mixture of everything you want in a casual hike: interesting topography, a distance less than 5 miles, and fun places to stop along the hike. The fun stopping points I’m talking about are obviously the deep pools and natural water slides.
Yes, there are two natural water slides along this trail. The first, and more popular of the two, is about a mile up from the parking lot on the right. It can be easy to miss if you aren’t paying close attention to the stream. As you ascend the trail you’ll see several large pools (all great for a quick dip), the first one with a water slide has a very visible dirt path that branches off to it. This path leads to a small rocky outcrop that overlooks a long waterfall pouring into a deep pool. At this pool you can slide down the waterfall or cliff jump from several spots which range in height from less than 10 feet to over 25 feet. Whether you stop here for lunch or plan your entire hike around this swimming hole you won’t be disappointed.

The second water slide on the Cedar Run Falls trail is about another 1/2 mile up the trail and easier to find. This water slide is not as steep as the first one but still plenty exciting. The pool at the bottom of the slide is much smaller than the first one, so proceed with caution or you may end up hitting a rock at the bottom of the slide.
My personal advice for a trip to Cedar Run falls would be to set aside the majority of your time for the swimming holes, cliff jumping, and natural water slides. Get out there and check it out for yourself this summer! Send us some pics of your trip in the comments below!
